Bay vs. bow
A bay window uses three units, usually a large center picture window flanked by two angled operable windows.
A bow window uses four to six equal units in a gentle curve. It reads softer and works well on Victorian and traditional facades.
What we replace with the glass
- The head and seat boards, often water damaged on older bays
- The small roof or canopy above, flashed into the wall
- Support cables or brackets so the unit doesn't sag
- Insulation under the seat and in the head, a common source of drafts
Turning a flat window into a bay
We can replace a flat picture window with a bay or bow. It usually needs a full-frame replacement and sometimes a permit, and we handle both.
Common questions
How much does a bay window cost?
Bay and bow window replacement in Charleston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on size, number of units and roof work.
Why is my bay window leaking?
Most bay leaks come from the roof cap or poor flashing above the unit, not the glass. We fix the source during replacement.
