Why doors fail here
Charleston's humidity swells wood doors and jambs, salt air corrodes hardware and hinges, and wind-driven rain finds any weak point at the sill. Many doors look fine from the street but have rot at the bottom of the jamb or a threshold that lets water into the subfloor.
We replace the whole system when it's needed: slab, frame, sill pan, flashing and weatherstrip, so the new door works and stays dry.
Prehung vs. slab replacement
A slab replacement swaps only the door panel and is rarely the right fix for an exterior door. A prehung replacement includes a new frame, sill and weatherstrip and is what we recommend for nearly every exterior opening. It is the only way to fix rotted jambs and leaking sills properly.
Pricing at a glance
Most entry doors run $2,000 to $7,000 installed and patio doors $2,500 to $10,000, depending on size, material, glass and impact rating. See the door replacement cost guide.
Common questions
How long does door installation take?
Most single entry or patio doors are installed in half a day to one day. Doors with sidelights, transoms or structural changes can take longer.
Do I need a permit to replace an exterior door?
Some door replacements need a permit, especially when changing the opening size or in historic districts. We handle permits when required.
Can you match my existing door style?
Yes. We offer traditional raised-panel, craftsman, Lowcountry and modern styles, plus custom glass and colors.
