In-swing or out-swing
In-swing doors are traditional and keep the swing inside, out of the way of porch furniture.
Out-swing doors save interior space and resist wind-driven water better, since wind pushes the door into its seals. Out-swing is often preferred on exposed coastal elevations.
Design options
- Full glass, divided lite or half-lite panels
- Fixed or operating sidelites
- Transoms above the doors
- Painted, stained and wood-clad finishes
- Multi-point locks with matching hardware
Proper sealing
French doors have more meeting points than sliders, so astragals, weatherstrip and sill design matter. We install with a sill pan and flashing so water drains outward. For coastal homes see impact doors.
Common questions
Can I replace a sliding door with French doors?
Usually yes, if there is room for the doors to swing. We'll check clearances inside and outside.
Are French doors secure?
Modern French doors use multi-point locks that engage at the top, bottom and side, making them very secure.
What do French doors cost?
Most run $4,000 to $10,000 installed, depending on size, glass and impact rating.
